Why the name Ultra Baal Out?

WHY the name Ultra Baal Out?

The Old Testament Prophet Elijah had an incredible victory in defeating Baal (one of the god’s that the ancient people worshipped). However, when later confronted, Elijah still fled for his life. In 1 Kings 19: 3, it says that Elijah ran from Mt. Carmel to Beersheba which was over 100 miles away. Today, there are many “Baal’s” that distract us and get our devotion, things such as money, sex, power, selfishness, etc. Our team is a group of Jesus followers who have a strong desire to kick these “Baal’s” out of our lives. And we are pretty impressed with Elijah's running prowess as well - if he were alive today he could have done this MC200 relay almost single-handedly!
And, with all of the economic doom and gloom, bail-out vs. baal-out - it just made sense...

Hi Runner Dean; (comment from 12/9 blog) yes, a 200 mile relay would test the spirit that drives us. The Kona Ironman was televised this past Saturday and every year I watch it I can't get it out of my head for weeks! Especially the 72 year old women who finished before the cut off time "with a smile"! How special is that!
